Most insurance providers offer some coverage for hospital-based pulmonary rehabilitation programs. Coverage and co-pays for each visit will vary. The co-pay for a hospital program is on average about $7 per session. For a standard, 12-week hospital-based pulmonary rehabilitation program, this could add up to nearly $400 in out-of-pocket costs for an individual with COPD or other cardiovascular condition. Additionally, most insurance providers cap the number of hospital-based pulmonary rehabilitation sessions that they will cover for any individual. As a result, most people will utilize a hospital-based program to help them jump-start their recovery after a hospitalization, even though pulmonary rehabilitation has been shown to be very effective for anyone with moderate or severe COPD and many other respiratory conditions.
